LAUNCHING IN THE SUMMER OF 1970 on Auckland’s rugged west coast, New Zealand’s rescue helicopter service is believed to be the first civilian aeromedical operation of its kind in the world. Two years after starting, one of its original pilots helped set up Australia’s first rescue helicopter service.
New Zealand’s rescue helicopter service is one that anyone could need, anywhere and at any time. When seconds count, whether it’s an accident, medical emergency, interhospital transfer or search and rescue, people count on it. Westpac has supported the charity for over 40 years in what is believed to be one of the most long-standing corporate partnerships in New Zealand. Through its Chopper Appeal, Westpac aims to fundraise at least $1 million each year for the country’s 15 rescue helicopter services operating today.
The service is grateful for the government’s support, but still relies on the generosity of the community. Thanks to this goodwill, patients can be rescued on their worst day without the added worry of a bill arriving in the post. Kiwis trust the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
